Six Oklahoma communities have been chosen to host this important exhibit. The Museum of Pioneer History opening will be on February 27th.
Opening Ceremony Event
February 27, 2 p.m. – The exhibit’s grand opening ceremony will include discussions on issues that framed Lincoln County journey stories. Dr. Mike Logan, Oklahoma State University, will address the early years of transportation and how pioneers overcame almost insurmountable difficulties. Dr. Bill Bryans, also from OSU, will discuss how the Dust Bowl forced many Oklahomans to leave the state and the effects of that exodus on residents of Lincoln County. The event is free and open to the public.
About the Exhibit
Journey Stories uses images, audio, and artifacts to explore an ideal that is central to the American identity—the freedom to move. The exhibit includes individual journey stories and demonstrates the roles of travel and movement in building a diverse, American society. Themes such as immigration, migration, innovation, and freedom illustrate American mobility and how it has evolved as an assertion of individual freedom.
