Oklahoma Humanities Awards

The Oklahoma Humanities Awards honor outstanding contributions of individuals, organizations, and projects to the understanding of the humanities in Oklahoma.

 

2011 Oklahoma Humanities Awards

The Oklahoma Humanities Awards are sponsored by the Oklahoma Humanities Council and recognize the contributions of individuals, organizations, and projects to the understanding of the human experience through the humanities disciplines in Oklahoma. Nominations are now open for projects that took place between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010 in the following categories:

 

  • Oklahoma Humanities Award is presented to an individual with a long-term commitment to the humanities, through a career in education or cultural programming and/or a body of work that has increased the understanding of the human experience through the humanities disciplines in Oklahoma. The recipient need not be a resident or former resident of Oklahoma. To download the nomination form, click here.

  • Public Humanities Award honors an individual scholar responsible for outstanding public humanities programming in a library, museum, historical society, or other cultural institution. To download the nomination form, click here.
  • The Community Leadership Award honors an institution or individual that creates or participates in a community-based program promoting public understanding of the human experience through the humanities disciplines. To download the nomination form, click here.
  • Community Support Award honors a business, foundation, or individual that has contributed critical financial support to public humanities programming in Oklahoma. To download the nomination form, click here.
  • The Humanities in Education Award honors an administrator, instructor, tribal education program, or school district that exhibits or supports excellence in humanities education for levels K-12. To download the nomination form, click here.
  • The Outstanding OHC Project honors an outstanding humanities project made possible by an Oklahoma Humanities Council (OHC) program or grant. Criteria for selection may include projects that reached new or underserved audiences, presented the humanities in an innovative way, demonstrated exceptional scholarship, and/or promoted meaningful public engagement with the humanities. Only the Outstanding OHC Project award can be nominated by the program’s sponsoring organization. All other nominations must come from a third party (individual or organization). Multiple nominations are accepted and OHC reserves the right to move nominations to appropriate categories.

Award recipients are selected by a committee of the Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma Humanities Council. Recipients will be notified in October 2010. OHC staff will work with awardees and nominators in the production of videos that will be presented at the awards dinner. Please note: Current members of the Oklahoma Humanities Council board or staff (or immediate family members) are not eligible for Oklahoma Humanities Awards.

A formal awards dinner will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011 in Oklahoma City. Award recipients must be present and will receive two complimentary tickets to the dinner.
