Host Community Applications
Hosting a Smithsonian exhibit is a boon to communities, both culturally and economically. OHC provides host communities with access to scholarly consultations, capacity-building workshops, and event-planning support that will make lasting improvements to advance their work.
Key Ingredients: America by Food will tour six Oklahoma communities, October 2011 through August 2012. The exhibit examines the history and culture of food—from ceremonies and etiquette to technology and the evolution of the American kitchen. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2009. Click here for the application and guidelines.
Current Exhibit — Journey Stories
Journey Stories uses images, audio, and artifacts to explore an ideal that is central to the American identity—the freedom to move. The exhibit includes individual journey stories and demonstrates the roles of travel and movement in building a diverse, American society. Themes such as immigration, migration, innovation, and freedom illustrate American mobility and how it has evolved as an assertion of individual freedom.
